On deciding to have a Reading Month . . .
On the last day of July on Twitter, Joanne Harris started one of her useful and stimulating hashtags:
Astonishingly, there are those who think you don’t need to read to be a good writer. ( I include audio-books, comics, graphic novels, picture books, anything!) This boggles my brain. And who could argue with him?
I won’t post all the points I applaud – follow the hashtag if you want inspiration – but this my current favourite:
Because reading is a primary source of creative inspiration.
It echoes Julia Cameron’s concept of filling your well – and I crave the waters of imagination at the moment. I hope you’ll enjoy my grateful reports on what I’ve read and how they’ve refreshing they’ve been.
Happy reading month!
