Lesser Spotted Animals #ReviewMonday

Today’s #ReviewMonday ventures into the colourful territory of animal non-fiction with Martin Brown . . .

You might well recognise Martin Brown’s distinctive style – he’s the illustrator for Horrible Histories. I think these images are even better – you can tell how much he likes and knows these oddities of nature. I particularly love the daft captions and ‘thinks’ bubbles.

If you find animals fascinating, and you happily store up fab facts, this book is ideal. There’s plenty to learn – and plenty to look at. A great book to dip into when you need something interesting, a smile or a giggle. My absolute favourite page is the illustration for the Crabeater Seal ( the world’s not-rarest seal). The expressions on their faces are great!

I’d highly recommend this book for not-so-keen readers. The pictures and fact boxes break up the text and make it so much more fun. Then there’s a glossary if you get stuck. There’s no need for an age-range on Martin Brown’s Lesser Spotted Animals – if you enjoy art and animals, no matter how many birthdays you’ve had, you’ll get a lot out of this.

Thank you David Fickling Books for this cheerful surprise of a book – I’ll make sure it gets shared with readers who’ll love it.
